Experience
- Optis v Apple: Part of the UK team acting for the Optis group in patent dispute with Apple including working on trials which found that no estoppel defence arose out “late” declarations of standard essential patents (Trial B) and in a trial which found that Apple were not at that time entitled to enforce the ETSI undertaking against Optis and that Apple would accordingly be injuncted unless Apple committed to enter into a FRAND licence to be determined by the High Court of England and Wales (Trial F). Currently part of the FRAND trial team.

- Technetix v Teleste. Acting for Teleste in successfully defending them against a claim of patent infringement brought in the IPEC. The case was widely reported, as it was the first time that the English courts had considered the existence of a “Formstein defence”. The court held that the asserted patent was invalid and also held that whilst the alleged infringement would have fallen within the scope of the claims under the doctrine of equivalents, Teleste would have been entitled to a Formstein defence, if such a defence exists in English law.
